“Luck Is What Happens When Preparation Meets Opportunity” is a quote attributed to the ancient Roman philosopher Seneca.
What Seneca was trying to say in other words is that we are responsible for our luck.
Being prepared – financially, physically, emotionally, and even spiritually – puts us in a position to take advantage of the opportunities that come our way.
In the travel-sphere, this could be anything from sufficient savings to take advantage of a flight sale, having the right visa, requesting your leave days in advance, and even ensuring you’ve tithed your income in a timely fashion.
On the flip side though, preparation takes effort on our part.
Sometimes a little, sometimes a hell lot.
And so does opportunity.
Isn’t that why Thomas Edison early on warned us that Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work?
And that’s why most people choose to pass up opportunity. The challenge is that if you pass up an opportunity today due to laziness – for lack of a better word – it becomes a habit. And it becomes easier to not plan the next time and the next time.
Do you a formula for prioritizing and planning for potential opportunity?
Let’s continue the conversation in the comments below.
In aircraft just before take off, its not uncommon for air hostesses to joke that in case of emergency, put up your oxygen masks before helping others including your kids. In the event that you have more than one, help the one with a higher chance of survival.
What happens if instead of passing up opportunity, you prepare for it?
