Google launched the Google Podcasts app for Android in June 2019 to make it easier for more people to listen to podcasts.

Unfortunately, even with this development in the podcasting landscape, lack of representation remains a huge stumbling block to uptake. And as a result, many people from around the world still don’t listen to podcasts.

To take care of this, Google launched The Google Podcasts Creator Program run by PRX, a pioneer in podcast training and education.

The goal is to have as many unrepresented voices as possible get into Podcasting globally, by lowering the barriers to entry.

So, if you have an interest in learning how to produce podcasts , this is where you come in….

Google has put out an open call for podcast ideas from around the world for the second cohort of the accelerator.

  • Eligibility: open to all applicants worldwide

To apply, you will need to enter the following details in the application submission’s page:

  1. Your podcast’s name. If you don’t have a name yet, please use a working title.
  2. where you are in your podcasting process. That is do you have an existing podcast, idea for a podcast, or are still in production (not yet launched).
  3. Your podcast’s elevator pitch. As in, what your podcast is all about in a single sentence.
  4. Your podcast’s extended elevator pitch. As in, be specific and have a sense of what will happen in the next 2-3 episodes. What will your podcast sound like? Who will host it?
  5. Your podcast’s intended audience/ the ideal listener for your podcast. Again, be very specific. This is one of the most critical questions in the application and in the growth of your podcast.
  6. An audio sample of up to two minutes in length to give your application’s reviewer a sense of what your show will sound like. If your podcast is still at ideation stage, just be creative – come up with something you envision your show sounding like.
  7. Audio sample description
  8. Format of the podcast. A sense of how your shows will primarily be structured. This could be: reported, narrative style, interview, chat-cast, fiction, personal narrative, or experimental. If you’re planning to use any other format, please be prepared to describe it.
  9. Podcasting Budget. What it will cost/it costs to produce your podcast for one year. Some budget lines to consider include: staff, studio time, office space, equipment, audio editing and transcription software, marketing, supporting website, music clearance, distribution, live events, and other expenses in support of show production. You do not need to include travel to the trainings as it will be covered by PRX.
