Who is eligible for Canada’s Agri-Food Immigration Pilot?
To apply for permanent residence under the Agri-Food Pilot, you need
- eligible Canadian work experience (i.e. at least one year Canadian work experience – at least 1,560 hours in the past three years) in one or more of the eligible industries and occupations
- a full-time (at least 30 paid hours per week), non-seasonal job offer from a Canadian employer in one of the following eligible industries and occupations (outside of Quebec)
- Eligible industries under the Agri-Food Pilot are:
- meat product manufacturing (NAICS 3116) in the following eligible occupations:
- NOC B 6331 – Retail butchers
- NOC C 9462 – Industrial butchers
- NOC B 8252 – Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers
- NOC D 9617 – Food processing labourers
- greenhouse, nursery and floriculture production, including mushroom production (NAICS 1114) in the following eligible occupations:
- NOC B 8252 – Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers
- NOC C 8431 – General farm workers
- NOC D 8611 – Harvesting labourers
- animal production, excluding aquaculture in the following eligible occupations:
- NOC B 8252 – Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers
- NOC C 8431 – General farm workers

- cattle ranching and farming (NAICS 1121)
- hog and pig farming (NAICS 1122)
- poultry and egg production (NAICS 1123)
- sheep and goat farming (NAICS 1124)
- other animal production (NAICS 1129)
- meat product manufacturing (NAICS 3116) in the following eligible occupations:
- Eligible industries under the Agri-Food Pilot are:
- to meet or exceed the language requirements
- You must score a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of Level 4 on an approved language test in either English or French.
- to meet or exceed the educational requirements
- You must have completed level of education equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma (or higher). If you completed your studies outside Canada, then you must have your credentials assessed by a valid Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA) agency.
- to maintain temporary resident status (if already in Canada)
- to have settlement funds (if applicable)
- You must show proof of funds enough to support you and your family upon arrival in Canada. If you are already working in Canada with a valid work permit then the proof of funds requirement is waved.

Application limits of the Agri-Food Pilot by eligible occupation
There are annual limits on the number of the Agri-Food Pilot applications that will be processed for each eligible occupation.
Starting on January 1 of each year, applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. This pilot will last for 3 years.
As at the writing of this article the Agri-Food Pilot program is currently accepting applications until May 2023 when the program will come to a close.
The Agri-Food Pilot program accepts a maximum of 2,750 principal applicants, plus their family members, in each of one of 3 years of its tenure as tabulated below:
