There are 4 main steps to creating your website or blog: registering a domain name, hosting your website, selecting a content management system and blog design.
For this guide, we shall use 
WordPress as our Content Management System.
I like WordPress because you can start a free blog with a WordPress name, and also use it as a Content Management System.
Even a total beginner can create, design, write and manage their own website or blog.
WordPress powers nearly 25% of all websites on the internet including this one you’re currently on.
To use WordPress though, you needs to first install it on a web host.
We will be using Bluehost mainly to take advantage of their 1-click install feature as well as their near 99% up time.
1. Choose and register a domain name
Registering your domain is important because the is the first step you take when you want to start a profitable blog or a website in Kenya.
A domain name is the what people type in a browser such as Google Chrome so as to view or visit your blog or website..
So for instance, this blog’s domain name is evamtalii.com which I bought from BlueHost as a package deal with hosting of the website.
A domain name can have very many different extensions including: .com, .org, .net, .info.co.ke, etc.
I highly recommend that you register a .com as it is the best. The only challenge is that since .com is the most popular extension, you are likely to find that someone has already registered your our preferred .com name.
To register a domain name in Kenya therefore, start by visiting an authorized domain name registrar’s website.

What you need to register a domain name in Kenya
- A credit card or debit card to pay for your domain name.
- An email address that you have access to.

How to do domain name registration in Kenya

If it is not available, you’ll be asked to choose another name or a variation of the same name.

After filling in your account details, enter your credit card/debit card information and click “Submit”.

3. Setup web hosting
Once you have identified and registered a domain name, you will need to host your website.
This basically means giving your site and its contents a home.
This is the place visitors to your website will be sent to when they type in your domain name on their browsers.
I promise you this is much easier than it actually sounds! It will just take a few clicks and your website will be up and running in no time.

Once you’ve settled for and registered a domain name, go on to create your Bluehost account. Please make sure to uncheck the other paid package extras e.g. domain privacy protection, search engine jumpstart, etc, if you will not need them. If you need them, just tick the boxes.
