The Atlantic immigration program began in 2017 as a pilot program to encourage skilled immigrants to settle in Atlantic Canada which includes the provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.
Having proven highly successful, the pilot was made permanent in January 2022 and name changed from Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) to Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
To participate, Atlantic Canada employers must first apply to the province to be designated, which means that they do not need an Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to hire a foreign worker.

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada has allocated (IRCC) Nova Scotia 5,340 endorsement spaces to the 2022 Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP). This is 75% more than 2021.
