There is only one way to know if you have been selected for the US Green Card Lottery or rather if you won the American DV Green card lottery.
If you submitted your application for the Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery (“DV Lottery”), you are probably among the many crossing their fingers hoping that they are one of the 50,000 lucky once to have the chance to apply for U.S. permanent residence aka a “US green card”
Typically, you can always check your US Green card lottery application status any time beginning early May of the year after which you made your DV lottery application.
In today’s post I share with how to tell if you are one of the lucky winners of US Green card and how the US government notifies DV lottery winners.
Many US Green card applicants make the mistake of waiting to be mailed a letter or emailed a notice alerting them that they have “won” or that their green card application was not accepted. Please do not make that mistake.
The only way to find out whether your US green card lottery application was successful or not is by going to the electronic Entrant Status Check at https://dvprogram.state.gov/ESC/
Do not delay in checking the status of your US green card lottery application, because in the event your green card entry is successful and you are a lottery winner you will need to put together all the necessary documents for submitting your green card Diversity Visa application.
All US green card winners must apply for and be issued with their DV visas before the following October.
Furthermore, each year there are more “green card application winners” than there are actual visas, so you are not barred and so you benefit from the lottery win.
You will need to prove that you meet the work and/or educational requirements and are otherwise admissible to the US hence why you should make haste in gathering all required documents and in good time if you are successful.
How to use the Entrant Status Check to confirm if you won US Green Card
Make sure you safely keep the confirmation number that you were given when you submitted your US green card lottery entry, because this number is what you use for the Entrant Status Check.
Your DV Green Card Lottery confirmation number is a 16-digit number beginning with the year of the DV Lottery that you applied for, such as 2021 or 2022), your last name, year of birth.
In case you misplace it, you can retrieve it in the Entrant Status Check website using the email address you used to register for Green card and certain personal information that will be used to verify your true identity.
So to check whether or not your Green Card application was successful or not, enter your 16-digit confirmation number then authenticate by typing the characters shown in the box.
Do not be scammed
As I have already stated above, the only way to find out whether your US Diversity Visa DV Lottery Green Card application was successful and if you were selected or not is through Entrant Status Check.
The U.S. government WILL NOT send you any email.
So any e-mail purporting to be from them telling you you have won is a scam to get your personal information and steal your hard earned money.
