According to the Agriculture and Agri-Food Labour Task Force, farm worker labor shortages in Canada are currently at 60,000 but could grow to 114,000 by 2025 if foreign workers continue to be brought into the country as they currently are through the Temporary Foreign Worker program.
And this is the reason why the Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food Labour Task Force in 2021 called for the creation of an immigration program specifically for agricultural workers.
According to them, the current industry job vacancy rate of 7 per cent translates to $1.5 billion in lost sales.
It is therefore no secret that farm workers are urgently needed in Canada.
