Reading is one of the obvious ways for freelancers to come to grips with their career, current events and what the times demand of them.
Talk to any successful freelancer and for the majority, a lot of their success has to do with the fact that they are avid readers.
Where can we turn to for stuff to read?
- Industry blogs and news sites—there’s countless blogs around the internet. Reading freelancers make it a lifelong quest to read, internally digest and apply what they read to their careers and lives as a whole.
- People. Hold on (in a not-so-creepy manner!) to others who have tread the journey before you. Learn from their mistakes. Be inspired by their good deeds. People are living story books.
- Biographies. Get over to Amazon and buy one or two biographies or rush to the local library and borrow a copy. There is something to learn from another’s life; whether they lived well or not, there is power in reading about them.I’m currently reading Peter Drucker’s biography Adventures of a Bystander.
- Share with others what you are reading. I have friends who enjoy reading books on entrepreneurship, books on art and music appreciation, as well as books on self-motivation; just as much as I do. Someone with a passion for the same genre of books as you do and is willing to talk about them is definitely a keeper!
Over to you. What are you currently reading?
