The Kenyan Ministry of Tourism announced British supermodel Naomi Campbell as the Magical Kenya International ambassador.

In a statement, Ministry of Tourism said Ms. Campbell will help promote the marketing of Kenya as an ideal tourism and travel destination to the world.

“We welcome the exciting news that Naomi Campbell will advocate for tourism and travel internationally for the magical Kenya brand,” Balala said in the statement.

Commenting on her appointment, Campbell invited golf professionals globally to visit Baobab Golf course in Vipingo.

“I am also impressed with the world-class standard facilities at the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Baobab course located in Vipingo Ridge, the only golf course credited by the PGA in the whole of Africa. I invite golf professionals globally to visit the course to enjoy the experience,” she said.

A section of Kenyans took to social media to laud the Kenya ministry of tourism’s move saying it had made the right choice as Naomi loves Kenya and this was a step in the right direction for Kenya’s tourism industry that has been adversely affected by the Covid pandemic.

Another section of Kenyans thought that this was a big joke and took to Twitter to express their sentiments.

That there already exists a wonderful host of Kenyans who can do that job. Better.

As a Kenyan travel blogger, I think Naomi is qualified to be Kenya’s “international” ambassador.

Girl has been loving Kenya from way back.

She has been coming to Kenya for forever and always shows off the places she’s visited.

Check out Naomi wearing this Kenyan flag inspired design by Kenneth Ize at the Paris Fashion Week in February 2020. Sema kuji position strategically 🙂

Besides, Ms Campbell is well versed with Kenya and has associated herself a few times with Kenya; and she seems to have a genuine interest in the country, especially the Kenyan coast of which she frequents quite often so she might as well assume her new role and roll with it.

Going by just Naomi Campbell’s Instagram account alone, the model has in the past always associated herself with Kenya. Most recently, Naomi Campell has been in the country, where she spent the holiday season at her billionaire ex-boyfriend  Flavio Briatore’s Lion in the Sun resort in Malindi.

On the issue of “there being many talented Kenyans who could have done the job better” 🙄
The target market dictates the brand ambassador.
Seriously guys, how many of these “equally talented” Kenyan models, bloggers, and YouTubers have similar reach as Naomi’s social circle, social media presence (2M Instagram followers), and the target audience she’s expected to market Kenya to?
Last but not least, rumor has it that Naomi has invested heavily in Malindi. It is therefore in here best interest to protect Kenya, and to also promote it. Which is a win win for her, and the country.

What are your thoughts on Kenya having Ms Campbell as its tourism ambassador?

You be the judge 🙂
