Disclaimer: The information on this page is not exhaustive. It is based on the most recent available data provided by EU Member States and collected from other publicly available and authoritative national sources. As from 1st July 2020, EU Member States re-opened their countries and started lifting the restrictions on non-essential travel into the EU for residents of the following African countries subject to confirmation of reciprocity:

  • What's Covered in This Article

    Algeria

  • Angola

  • Egypt

  • Ethiopia

  • Mauritius

  • Morocco

  • Mozambique

  • Namibia

  • Rwanda

  • Tunisia

  • Uganda

  • Zambia

For travelers from countries outside the above safe list such as health care workers, diplomats, humanitarian workers, transit passengers, asylum seekers and students, as well as “passengers traveling for imperative family reasons” and foreign workers whose employment in Europe is deemed essential, exceptions are being made for.

The countries were chosen based on certain criteria, including that the number of new cases over a 14-day period had to be “close to order below the EU average.” The countries also needed to have a “stable or decreasing trend of new cases over this period.”
