In about 3 months from now, my dear mum will be retiring from active service from the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC). Congratulations my love!
So a couple weeks back she gave me an assignment: to find creative ways she can make some money in Kenya as a retired teacher after retirement that won’t take a great toll on her health and don’t require too much movement.
Luckily, there are a lot of opportunities for teachers to make money in Kenya once retired, and here some ways for retirees to make money in Kenya.

If you are like most Kenyans, you probably built a huge house because you had this many kids who no longer live with you, chances are you have a spare room in your house.

You may have some money stashed away that you may not be aware of or may have forgotten about.
Most likely places to start your search could be in a bank account you no longer use, points on your Nakumatt smart card or Tuskys card, an M-Pesa account you stopped using, pensions or even insurance benefits.
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) through he Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) has billions in unclaimed funds belonging to about two million Kenyans.
To claim, simply log onto the The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA)website.
10. Try your hand at blogging
This is one of the slowest ways of making money as a retiree in Kenya.
It takes a lot of time and hard work at the beginning, but once your posts start ranking and people are able to find your blogs organically, you can sit back and relax as the schmoney rolls in.
The easiest way to make money blogging in Kenya is by writing posts that solve a problem for someone or a group of people.
11. Become a business coach
As a retired teacher, you already posses teaching skills. What better way to not waste them than by starting a business that helps other teachers learn more about starting their own side hustles or businesses using their existing skills and knowledge.
You can do this either through a blog or a podcast for teachers and educators who want to start their entrepreneurial journey.
The focus could either be on starting a side hustle as a full-time teacher in Kenya; or start a business post – retirement.

Another easy to start business ideas for a retired teacher in Kenya is one that involves helping currently serving teachers to develop more efficient lesson plans by selling curriculum to them online.
Start out with one subject before expanding into other subjects.

If you answered yes to both of the above questions, then you could very easily make money creating workbooks and selling them online as eBooks.
Over time once you have enough people visiting your website, you can create a membership site and charge a small fee for students and teachers to access the workbooks, exercises, etc.
